Functionality
Excel Converter is an application written in macro coding within a Microsoft Office Excel workbook. It allows you to perform any file conversion or file upgrade that Excel would normally be capable of doing. The primary difference is that in normal practice to convert a file, say from an Excel .xlsx to Adobe .pdf format, you would need to open the Excel file, click on the Office button, click on Save As, click on Other Formats, click on Save As Type, then select PDF, then navigate to the folder where the converted file should be saved. This requires quite a few steps, but it works fine if you only need to convert one file. Excel Converter has been developed to assist you when you have a few files (or a few thousand files) that you wish to convert in a quick batch process.
Features
Native coding. The Excel Converter application utilizes the identical native Excel process that would be used if you opened an Excel workbook and saved a converted file. Other conversion utilities (costing more money) may also support batch processing, but they do not convert files natively within the same Microsoft product. This can have important consequences later when using the converted files.
Batch processing. As touched on above, there is no theoretical limit to the number of files that you may choose to convert as part of a single batch process. Processing times vary, of course, according to factors such as processor type, file size, type of conversion. However, in a typical benchmark test, 1,000 .xls files of 100KB each were converted to .xlsx in 13 minutes.
Easy Office upgrading. A common use for this application will be for users who have recently upgraded to a newer version of Microsoft Office and wish to convert their Excel files from an earlier Office format. A typical scenario would be that a company or individual has upgraded to Office 2007 or Office 2010 but has legacy Excel files in Excel 4, Excel 5.0/95 and Excel 97-2003 formats. Compounding the confusion, some Excel files contain macro coding, while others do not. Since the Office 2007 and 2010 versions do away with the familar single .xls file type, the user must now determine whether to convert older workbooks into either .xlsx (no macro coding) or .xlsm (macro enabled). Rather than individually opening Excel workbooks to determine if they contain macros, Excel Converter completely automates this with a optionable feature called Let Excel Converter Decide. When this conversion feature is selected, the Excel Converter application examines the source workbook, determines whether it contains macro code and then assigns the xlsx/xlsm file format accordingly. Easy.
Bi-directional conversions allowed. While many users will need to upgrade from older to newer Excel formats, others may have a requirement to do just the reverse and convert from newer to older. You have the capability from going from Excel 2010 or 2007 to Excel 97-2003 or Excel 5.0/95.
Non-Excel file conversions allowed. As mentioned above, any file conversion allowable in Excel can be done in Excel Converter. So, you may choose to convert from Excel to various non-Excel formats such as PDF, SYLK, DIF, CSV, TXT, PRN, XPS, ODS. And, of course, you may also go from any of these non-Excel formats to Excel.
Optional pre-conversion workbook analysis. Converting Excel files can be easy or problematic, depending on the underlying complexity of the workbooks to be converted --- whether they contain macro code, are in a legacy format, are password protected, contain broken external connections, as well as other unforeseen file glitches. In order to provide the user with a reliable method of ascertaining potential complications, Excel Converter incorporates a powerful means of examining large numbers of workbooks and reporting on all relevant internal properties. This allows the user to identify and manually take care of individual problem files that might otherwise slow down a batch process. The Analysis Report is a feature that many users will find useful long after utilizing Excel Converter for an upgrade or conversion project. More about the Analysis Report»
Context-sensitive help file assistance. The Excel Converter application includes a Microsoft Help File that is fully accessible by simply clicking on any item for which the user requires additional information. In addition to offering complete instruction on program usage, the help file also contains useful topics explaining general conversion issues and potential problems associated with converting certain file types. This can provide valuable assistance in formulating an effective strategy for your conversion or upgrade project.
Unlimited free upgrades. With your purchase of Excel Converter you will be allowed to download the latest version of the application without restriction. After downloading from this website, just enter the purchase license code and start converting and upgrading unlimited numbers of files.
